Did you see our full office and showroom tour? In it you might have noticed our desk. It’s a quick DIY Ikea countertop desk, simple and customizable for any space. Using two Ikea countertops, kitchen cabinet boxes and my painterly striped fabric from lulu and georgia.

see below for the full DIY

items used:

• 2 ikea möllekulla countertop oak/vaneer, these can be cut to a custom size if needed. we used the full length.

5 ikea sektion base cabinet frames, these are used as the base of the desk.

• about 7 yards of painterly stripe fabric from sss x lulu and georgia.

we had two skirts made custom by our local sewing friend. they attached a drapery panel on the top and hemmed at the bottom. our skirts are 51.25 inches by 31 inches at finished lengths.

• drapery hooks

staple gun

to build desk:

  1. place your base cabinet frames. we used one on each end of 1 countertop then one as a support in middle. for a total of 5 cabinet frames.
  2. follow the directions included to attach the countertop to the cabinet frames. the cabinets come with brackets that you screw the countertop into.

to attach the skirt:

  1. mark where you will staple. we did  2.5 inches down from the top of the countertop with 5 inches between each staple.
  2. place a staple where you marked. you want the staple to go in about half way to create a hook for the drapery hooks to hang.
  3. attach your drapery hooks to the skirt. our sewer used pinch pleat tape with slots for the hooks. we inserted one drapery hook about every two slots.
