Speaking of Michigan, it has been a while since I shared anything on the status of the cabin. We basically finished up most of our projects here in time to start our home renovation back in LA. Our last trip consisted of some spring cleaning and not much else work-wise, but I was finally able to take some photos of the full finished bedroom. It really has become a lovely peaceful getaway.
More images of the space, some side by side before and after photos, and all the sources after the jump.
For those of you who have been following along, you know how far we’ve come. In the bedroom alone, we stripped it down to the studs, removed the old flooring, took out a shelving unit, re-moved a wall and one set of bunks to make room for a regular sized bed, put in new flooring, new electrical, new lights, new drywall, paint, and trim, wallpapered, re-built one set of bunk beds, re-built a new closet, put in new entry doors, DIY’d a dresser, oh and put in a new ceiling.
It was hard to remember how it looked when we first got it so I had to dig up these photos from the day we got the keys. I can’t say I miss those little whales too too much. 😉
I have loved this bedroom so much! This morning while I was scrolling through the pictures my 5 year old was peeking over my shoulder. When I got to the built in bunks, she grabbed my arm and exclaimed, “I need that!” That girl already has great taste!
I’ve been reading along for over a year and the transformation is just INSANE. You guys are so good, vision wise, and of course with execution of it all. The bedroom is beautiful. I love the small details/touches: individual curtains for each bunk, the wallpaper, cute dotted sheets and similar pillow cases, and of course your dresser DIY from a while back. Just beautiful, Sarah!
We have been working and working and working on fixing up a cottage in pentwater michigan for about a year now! such a fun project and a great way to learn DIY. I’m jealous of your progress! we’ll get there someday!
Love it! Question – I’m starting transitioning to brass (tried in the bathroom but finding good fixtures is so hard!!), and are you typically using the polished or the antique brass knobs? Any general advice for the peanut gallery on brass and ways to know if it’s lacquered or will age well?

Great blog.
So I’ve seen your lovely cabin before, but I never realized that the bunks were in the master bedroom, is this a 1 bedroom cabin?
Sexy, modern, fresh, and dramatic! The velvet curtains are perfect! I am so happy you left the bunk beds in! A must have for a cabin!
love, love, love this! do you ever rent out your cabin?
Wow, wow, wow. Such a beauty. The placement of the light fixture into the mirror—so smart. Love your style.

Perfect! Where are the bamboo blinds from? What color did you choose? Love them!
Amazing transformation!
Wow, call that a cabin, it’s beautiful, luxury personified. I think cabin might mean something a bit different in the UK! 🙂
