modern country // living room & entry // sarah sherman samuelRecently, I have been working on a living room design for Eden of Sugar and Charm and it is allllmost finished, so I thought I would share the design board I created for her with my initial furniture selects for the space. Eden’s style is “rustic modern” which was a fun twist on my usual aesthetic. Her house is in an idyllic neighborhood outside of LA that I didn’t even know existed. When I arrived at her place I felt like I pulled up to the neighborhood I grew up in, in the mid-west! So to match the location, Eden’s style and the style of the house…this is my take on a “modern country” living space.

Her living room is similar to mine in that it is a living room & entryway all in one space, so there were a few different furniture clusters to address. An entry/console table and mirror for the entry, as well as a bench and gallery wall that serves as a place to pull on and off shoes, and the main seating area with accent chairs, sofa, and coffee table. I balanced the two different styles by making sure there were several elements of both modern and country (or rustic). The rustic entry bench is offset by the modern frames and the sleek console table. The modern shaped sofa is balanced by the more traditional cozy silhouette of the yellow chair, etc. etc. And as always, I like to layer in natural patterns and textures like the fur on the chair (love the unexpected combination of the fur on such a traditional chair), the cow hide pillow, wood grain, plants, woven baskets, and that mirror… which is made to look like porcupine quills!

I can’t wait to show you how the space turns out!
