trunk-club-LAIf you have been following me around on Instagram or Snapchat (@sarahssamuel) you know I’m in New York this week. Before I left I dropped into the Trunk Club LA location because my ‘new mom’, ‘laid back california’, ‘work for yourself’, wardrobe needed a serious tune-up before the trip. Trunk Club recently opened up their services to Women so I was excited when they invited me to come in and try it out. It felt like perfect timing to fill my suitcase with pieces that are a bit more polished.

If you haven’t heard of them yet, Trunk Club is a personal styling service you can work with in two different ways. They offer an actual trunk service to women throughout the continental US, where when you sign up you are paired with a dedicated stylist who gets to know your style, sizes, needs etc and then they curate a personalized trunk of clothes that ships right to your door. The thing I like about that service is that it isn’t a subscription, so you just reach out to them on an as needed basis. Like when you are going on a trip or the start of a new season etc.

And if you are lucky enough to live in one of the cities where they have their clubhouses (Chicago, New York, Dallas, DC and LA) you can meet-up with your personal stylist in person, relax and have a drink at the bar, and try on clothes that they curated for you.  That is what I did and it was so much fun. I got paired up with Simone, we chatted on the phone before my appointment so I could talk about my style and needs. I wanted clothes that could easily mix and match (to make it easy to fit in a carryon) and get me from meetings to site seeing to dinner etc.

trunk-club-LA5When I arrived she had a rack of clothes, shoes and accessories waiting for me. After having a drink at the gorgeous bar, she took me back to a little lounge area with my own dressing room where I was able to try on all the pieces. I have to say I felt a little like a celebrity! I thought only the rich and famous get to go to these private clubhouses and get to have a personal stylist. The whole process was so easy and nice. No battling traffic and parking garages around the malls, no waiting in line for dressing rooms or trying to track down someone to help you get a different size etc. I just rolled up, parked right in front (that sounds funny to say outloud but it is a big luxury in LA) and got to choose pieces from a rack that was already curated to my taste. They carry a lot of my favorite labels so it wasn’t hard to fall in love with a few of the looks.

trunk-club-LA2trunk-club-LA3trunk-club-LA4I ALMOST went home with those shoes… I did love them so… but I am not sure if I can rock that high of a heel anymore, especially in New York, where people actually walk places. I did, however, go home with a few of the pieces like that jumpsuit, the black cropped jeans, the white fringe shirt, the chambray jacket (which was a major splurge but I’m chalking it up as an investment piece that I will have forever, at least that is what I told myself) and a dress not pictured. Some of the pieces were a lot like ones that I already own (chambray and black and white foreverrrr), so I didn’t need to purchase, but it was great having the photos of the outfits put together so when I was packing I could remember what to include and how we styled them in with the new pieces.

The whole process had me really leaning towards developing more of a capsule wardrobe. Less pieces but better quality.
