prenatal yoga style // smitten studioUp until my pregnancy I had never tried yoga, (which you can probably tell from my horrendous form, and how so very un-califorinian of me!) however, staying active and gaining strength throughout my pregnancy was a priority so I couldn’t think of a better time to start.

We now meet twice a week for our prenatal yoga sessions and I can’t say how much it has helped throughout the entire pregnancy. I had SEVERE sciatica pain which between the bump nest, physical therapy, and yoga, has completely subsided. After every session I feel just a little more ready for baby Samuel’s arrival and the stretches, breathing, and just taking some time to be quiet and focus on the little miracle forming inside has become a part of my week that I really look forward to.

Here’s hoping I will keep it up once our little bundle is here. Did you guys do yoga at all in preparation for a birth?

  • No pregnancies yet but tons of yoga here 😉 , welcome to the club! I feel so much better every time I do yoga up to the point I can’t imagine what I did before 🙂 x

Sounds like youre doing everything right! Is a water birth available to you? I had one and OMG I don’t know what I would have done without it! My doula called it an “aquadural” because it’s so effective at pain management …and it totally was! Anyway, just something to think about! Don’t want that sciatica pain acting up during labor and water might help 🙂

    • Hi Katy,
So we are planning on a natural birth in the hospital and I chose our hospital partially based on the fact that someone told me that bathtubs were available in some of the rooms because I love the idea of at least laboring in water. However I should have done more research on that part because we just did the tour and turns out they don’t have rooms with tubs!!! I am going to try and labor as much at home as possible but I am so sad not to have a bathtub available to me unless we change our plans. 🙁 Did you have a home water birth or birthing center?

  • I can’t believe how fast this time has gone! Baby Samuel is going to be here before we know it, I am beyond excited for you guys!!! And seriously, there isn’t a more beautiful pregnant lady 🙂

I had a hospital water birth, but like you mentioned, labored at home as much as possible. Got to the hospital when sh*t was getting REAL (9.5cm!) and hopped in the tub as soon as I could and was so thankful for it. If you’re interested, I wrote about my birth story here: http://allsortsofpretty.com/charlies-birth-story/

I know it may seem last minute, but remember that you can still change hospitals/doctors/plans if your gut is telling you to. I changed doulas at 39 weeks and it was probably the best decision I made! However the day unfolds, you will do great! I’m so excited for you and Rupert! My husband and I are getting smiles and GIGGLES (!!!) right now at 3 months and it is the best thing ever. Yay babies 🙂

  • The unique yoga Harem pants are now a permanent fixture in the yoga wardrobe as with the
fitted ankle cuffs you can stretch with ease and don’t have to worry about
them slipping down your legs. Many studios even provide
mats and other equipment, though the dedicated yogi might want to invest in their own inexpensive equipment.
They have loads more of great items from Hard Tail clothing and other designers.
