I just finished reading “An Object of Beauty”, which not only happens to have a gorgeous cover, but is filled with 20 something color reproductions of varied artworks that are woven into and definitely enhance the story. It took me right back to my art history classes in college… just much more entertaining and relevant. The book written by Steve Martin, follows the climbing career of an ambitious young woman (who seems to be missing a moral compass) in the New York City art world. It’s an interesting read for art lovers, New York lovers, and Steve Martin lovers. Bonus if you’re all three like me! Have any of you read it? I’d love to hear your thoughts.
… and how about this artful room, a match made in heaven I’d say.

Love this reading room series! I haven’t read this book yet but was always intrigued by the gorgeous cover. I’m happy to hear that its worth a read!
I actually just finished it as well! I guess in the end I had mixed feelings.. It was a fun read with moments of beautiful writing, and then somehow the overal arc of the story didn’t work so well for me… the way and timing that things were revealed. Thoughts?
Hi Annie,
I feel very much the same! I enjoyed reading it but was always expecting the lovely writing to go somewhere that in the end, I am not sure it ever did.
He’s a great writer—have you tried “Born Standing Up,” his memoir about his comedy career? So good.
Hi Nadya,
I haven’t… will have to check that out. Thank you!
What a lovely-looking book! I will have to check that out. I just discovered your site through Erin Boyle at “Reading My Tea Leaves.” I love your space and I’m a new follower!
I’ve drooled over the cover for so long but never gotten around to reading it… it’ll have to add to my stack…
Great! Would love to know what you think.
