Before the break we revealed the Oh Joy kitchen and I shared a little bit of my design process with the rendered options. This time I am pulling it one step back and sharing the very first step in my process which is the inspiration/mood board I presented to Joy when we had our first meeting about her executive office.
Typically I give clients a detailed questionnaire to nail down their style but with Joy’s being so iconic we got to get right to work. We knew we were going to use her tile so that was a big jumping off point. From there I rounded up these inspiration photos to help build a color palette and give us a chance to talk over ideas and the overall look and feel of the space. The mood board conveys the color pops, pattern mixing, and overarching whimsical style we wanted to bring into the room. And that we did, with art, wallpaper, disco balls, tassels and touches of gold…
By leaving a good amount of white space and utilizing white furniture the artwork, patterns, colors, and Oh Joy products are able to really pop without distraction. I had so much fun curating a little gallery wall behind Joy’s desk filled with art from friends.Sources: Blu Dot desk // Ikea floating shelves // chair from HD Buttercup // Curtains by Skyline // Cedar and Moss lighting // clear balls by Decorative Novelty // disco balls from Amazon // Team Woodnote Salvation print with Simply Framed frame // Team Woodnote Orange print with Simply Framed frame // Max Wanger tall palms print with Simply Framed frame // Max Wanger Joshua tree print with Simply Framed frame // Bonnie Tsang sky print // Geronimo x Jennifer Young photo // Lindsey Burwell drawing
In the area across from her desk we wanted to create a little lounge/reception area which we did by blocking it off with polka dotted wallpaper, bringing in am Oh Joy settee and a fun wicker chair from Grandin Road, and adding the Lulu & Georgia area rug.Sources: Oh Joy velvet settee // rattan chair by Grandin Road // Novogratz Rug from Lulu and Georgia // Mirror from Lulu & Georgia // wallpaper by Juju Papers // coffee tables from Target // shag pillow from Anthropologie // tassel pillow from Anthropologie // side table from Ikea // Cedar and Moss light // Oh Joy for Cle tile // Ikea shelving // Oh Joy for Target party animals // Oh Joy for Target bud vase // Oh Joy for Target pitcher // Oh Joy for Target votive holders
And finally, here’s a peek at the space before…
