Along with the room’s aesthetic, water conservation is also important to us, especially since we are in major drought over here in California. I recently partnered with Niagra Conservation to install the world’s most efficient toilet, also known as The Stealth Toilet. It uses only 0.8 gallons per flush while most new toilets use around 1.6 and older ones can be wasting 3+ gallons per flush!
The Stealth Toilet is the first ultra-high-efficiency toilet. There is also no flapper, which can often be a source of leakage and water waste, so it will be saving water from here on out. I’ve hardly noticed a difference from our previous loo, aside from the fact that it is a lot quieter and the design fits right in with the rest of the space. Also, you may even be able to get a rebate from the water supplier just for installing it – see if you qualify here.
Our bathroom used to be a bedroom when we first moved in (you’ll see in the before & afters below). Where the toilet and shower is now, was the bedroom’s closet. When we were adding on square footage we didn’t want it to look like a huge out of place addition so we kept the master bedroom and bathroom relatively small to scale with the rest of the house. To make the space feel bigger, I went with a glass walled shower, a floating vanity (which is a vintage credenza that I repurposed as a vanity), a monochromatic palette and finally I had a huge mirror custom made (mirrors are magic in small spaces).
I ended up swapping the dark pendants for a similar style in gold. I liked the contrast before but a wise lady once told me switching out lighting is like changing out the jewelry for the house and I have to agree. It is nice rotating in new pieces and moving fixtures from room to room if you can. For some reason it seems like a big deal but in actuality it is such a simple task. I spend more time drying my hair then it does to swap out a light fixture.
The vintage rug warms the space up and I added hooks for towels and/or robes. That schefflera plant is loving life in the corner. There is something about greenery in the bathroom that is so nice. Well really greenery in every room… but again, sometimes it is easy to forget about bringing details like that into the bathroom.
And a couple before and after’s…
Here you are looking at the same corner but at just a slightly different angle. The closet is now the shower and that window in both photos is the same window!
This one is more self explanatory… same wall, shot at the same angle.
So there you have it… a tiny bedroom turned bathroom! See all the renovation process here and read up on how you can reduce your water waste at whattheflush.com

Looks great! What kind of plant is in the first picture (in the vase on your tub)? I keep seeing it and don’t know what it is. Thanks!
Sorry toilet…
its a monstera leaf! x
Still so in love with that credenza! And monstera leaves are my favorite <3
Looks amazing!! Do you have a local contractor you recommend? Thx!
Where are the towel hooks from?
from cb2!
Where did you source the brass brackets on the shower glass? So pretty!
we just selected finishes from the glass enclosure fabricators. Sorry I don’t have more information on it, I don’t even remember the name of the glass shop.
Would you mind sharing the dimensions of the credenza? It looks beautiful!
Hi cassidy, its 60″ wide by 28″ high. x

Hi, we did our shower with same tile and fixtures and are planning to do the same glass doors….was curious what glass you chose for the shower? I was told if we went with regular glass as opposed to crystal glass, the tile would look greenish when you looked through the door and wall.

Hi Sarah – quick question! What company did you use for the brass shower hinges and door handle? I’m using brushed brass fixtures in a client’s bathroom right now and want the shower enclosure to match. Any advice would be lovely!
And this space is beautiful, as are all your designs <3

I love what you’ve done here and I am using this blog as inspiration for my bathroom renovations. I’m wondering what color grout you used, it looks like it could be either black or some shade of grey. Care to share the details?
Thanks! Fay

What is the plant in the pot on the vanity?
Hi! I am in love with this bathroom! Definitely stealing the copper fixtures and the little touches are wonderful! We are currently adding a bathroom that will be a very similar size. Curious how big your shower is? Trying to decide how big to go…and this size looks perfect!

Hi Sarah,
Wow, this looks amazing!
I’m wondering where did you buy the lamps? Is it a brand or your own invention?
Please let me know!
Love, Michelle
Hello Michelle,
The pendants are from Cedar & Moss and you can find them here. Make sure you check the bottom of each blog posts, you should find all the sources there!
Hi Sarah,
I’m curious how you got the mirror to stay on the wall without those little screw in brackets? Is it floating out a bit from the tile? It’s hard to tell in the photo.

[…] A simple way to bring life back to a space, even a bathroom, is to add some greens. Add them to your vanity or shelving, hang them from the wall, or fill a corner of the room. Looks great. I got a clear picture about redesigning my bathroom. I think property stylists can also help us to redesign bathrooms because they are trained in designing bathrooms.
Nice
Wow. you have done a great renovation. Innovation is often the ability to reach into the past and bring back what is good, what is beautiful, what is useful, what is lasting. “And you nailed it.
