If I died and came back as a kitchen, I would want it to be this one. Working with Mandy Moore and Architect Emily Farnham to completely gut renovate an ill fitting traditional kitchen in the mid-century home was maybe the most satisfying kitchen renovation to date. The one good thing the early 90’s renovation brought us was square footage since Mid-Century homes aren’t known for large kitchens, but the rest was a quick goodbye. We worked to take out clashing lines and curved architecture and brought back a more modern aesthetic, while also adding elements like marble slabs and floating shelves which make it feel very now.
Previously a curved alcove, we removed the french doors and replaced them with Fleetwood sliders to match the rest of the home’s existing windows and doors, the breakfast nook now is an seamless extension of the kitchen. A Lambert and Fils chandelier hangs above a Saarinen style table and wooden chairs bring warmth to the poured terrazzo floors and all the white.
As you’ll see below, we had a lot of work to do. The ceiling was a mish-mash of lines that we needed to streamline, the mall looking skylight was replaced with a flat glass one, new Cedar and Moss pendants were installed and all that was just from the ceiling up! We did custom cabinetry and had them painted in Farrow & Ball’s “Mizzle. The white custom range hood, shelves and all the walls are painted in Farrow & Ball’s “All White”.
Let’s take a quick trip down memory lane to see where we started…
Haha it’s behind you when you’re facing that first photo. I know I’m not sure how we missed getting any photos of that angle! 🤦🏼♀️ It’s a beautiful sub zero glass front one too.
This looks beautiful, love how you got back to the essence of the house’s bones, built the kitchen that it deserves!
I do wonder though… did you salvage the old kitchen cabinets? Definitely wrong for this house, but I could see them being nice in a different house / sometimes I just worry about the waste created in the process of making things beautiful. This piece is a bit controversial but at least got me thinking about a few things in a new way –> https://www.curbed.com/2018/3/7/17087588/home-renovation-unnecessary-mcmansion-hell-wagner
Gorgeous. The most gorgeous kitchen I think I’ve ever seen! I’m sure that this will be a gathering place for sure! (especially with those amazing velvet (?) chairs readily available! Comfy chairs in a kitchen space are my fav 🙂

If you were to have to redo this kitchen with quartz, which quartz would you pick? Looking at Empira white by Caesarstone – but just wishing it was bolder and it had a little more color. This looks like it has a slight blue/black tone, is that accurate?
This is what I call kitchen goals. This is space is just so bright and spacious.
Where is the fridge?

Holy cow, this is so good. Soooooo gooooood. You guys did such an amazing job on this place, but I think this room might be my favorite.
That’s one of the best kitchens I think I’ve ever seen
Hi from Québec, Canada! You ‘ve made a fantastic work on this project! Can you tell me how tall is the ceiling please? Thanks!
STUNNING. The stone in this house is impeccable. Man this house is top-notch, I’ve loved everything you’ve shown.
