p.s. her house isn’t really that far away but us L.A. folks like to complain about driving and her picturesque “country” neighborhood does make it feel like a different world. I mean there were horses walking down the street while I was there.
I picked a fairly monochromatic palette of varying shades of blacks and whites which set the backdrop for that chair and its pop of yellow. Also, by keeping with a limited color scheme we were able to combine all the styles that Eden is drawn to (traditional, rustic, country, and modern), as well as infuse a little of my modern california eclectic aesthetic, without it looking too mismatched. And as per usual, I played up natural textures and patterns so the neutral palette didn’t fall flat. The “porcupine quill” mirror creates such a unique focal point for the entry, it’s the first thing you see when you walk in the door and probably my favorite piece in the space. Heart eyed emoji for days! In the main seating/living area we swapped her large wooden coffee table for the smaller round one, which together with painting the fireplace white, opened up the space making it lighter and brighter. We moved the “landing pad”/console table to the other side of the room which made the space for a gallery wall and bench… a cozy place to pull on and off shoes. Eden also swapped out the old, not so great door, for an awesome dutch door, adding to the farmhouse feel. don’t miss the side by side before & after’s, after the jump…B E F O R E

Hi Ann! I had the bench made by a family friend! The wood was given to us and it was sitting in our garage, untilI realized it would be a great bench 🙂
It looks so much better than before…so cozy and warm.

It’s Eucalyptus in the big vase and not sure in the little. There are also some pink Protea Stems in the Eucalyptus.

Sarah dear, personally I love the room! Those large windows, that yellow armchair, that brilliant mirror, that wonderful rug, that mystic table…everything is so stylish and sooo well combine. Gorgeous! I would say that this style has an informal elegance – comfortable and modern living at its best! Just perfect!

One more request to know the source for the door, please and thank you.
Hey there- looks fab. Question for you- which size arm did you use for the Cedar&Moss lights? Trying to decide which one to get for a gallery wall.
Also, where in the world did you find the ikea poufs? I’ve looked all over LA and none of the Ikea stores have them…
I second those asking where the rug is from! I have been looking high and low for one similar to that. Beautiful space – love what you did.
You can get a rug very similar at West Elm, also Overstock.com carries a number of Moroccan throw rugs.
What is that fantastic white paint you used???
Sarah, I would also love to know the source for the dutch style door? I am on the hunt…!
Thanks and keep up your beautiful and inspirational work,
an adoring East Coast fan with West Coast on the mind
Gorgeous. The space is just stunning. Where are the pillows on the couch and the yellow chair from? They are so beautiful.
I noticed a few people asking about the rug and I got the same one (or at least nearly identical) at Target. It was a few months ago so I’m not sure if they still have it though. Gorgeous room btw!
can I ask where the gorgeous sheep skin chair is from?

Absolutely BEAUTIFUL ! Any chance I could know where this black Moroccan pillow (last pictures) ?!
The Black Moroccan pillow is from Restoration Hardware. I have the same one but got it last year I am not sure if they still have it! Good luck!

[…] This interior design was done by Sarah Sherman Samuel of Smitten Studios. I love the contrast between modern (such as the coffee table) and rustic (the shaggy rug and chair). I also admire the brass, woven, and sheepskin accents. The yellow chair, while not being blindingly bright, is a nice way to add color to the neutral color palette of the room. Check out the full post here. […]

[…] I’m obsessed with Sarah’s style, sleek and modern with a tad of rustic charm. This girl is not afraid to do something out of the ordinary, mixing styles and truly making it her own. And her fashion attire is just as hip and modern! I first fell in love with her bedroom along with that gorgeous green headboard + gold accents throughout!! View her “rustic modern” home tour here. Sarah,
Love this room for too many reasons. Where did you get the reclaimed wood for the fireplace. I am trying to do something similar with the wood and do not know where to get it.
Thanks
Siri
I’m so loving all of this…and most importantly it would feel good to “be” in. Please please tell me where to get that white coffee table or how to have one made, meaning the dimensions…is it laminate?

Hello! I love this room!! I love all the changes you made, pure genius! I also especially love that rug. I have seen a similar one at West Elm and overstock, but it’s not the same. Could you please share? Thank a bunch! The rug is the perfect combo of some rugs I’ve been looking at for my living room. Thanks again! Great design!
