sss book club: the favorites

The Favorites by Layne Fargo all out consumed me. It pulled me in and never let go. The twists and turns made it so hard to put down!! It brought me back to my first love and its all-consuming/crazy-making nature. This is one of those rare books that occasional and constant readers will devour. I read it in 5 hours, split up over 24 hours. And I still think about the characters often two weeks later. 

Few things–

• The author’s craft choice of weaving in interviews kept the story moving quickly, giving us a glimpse into every character’s point of view and context while still keeping the mystery alive. This deepened the obsession with needing to know more. I think a lot of readers will enjoy this feature of the book.
• The main house in the story is ON LAKE MICHIGAN. You know we can’t pass up a home on our lady lake. I cannot wait to bring this house to life with you. While it is also a tragic character of the story, we all know, there’s always hope for those characters, too.

A quick look into the story–

The savage, sparkling, scandalous love story centers on two elite figure skaters. Both beautiful and brutal, it is a wild ride of blood, sweat, hopes, dreams, tragedy, and obsession. With every oddity in life stacked against them, the story’s main characters claw their way out only to question how much is too much. 

Nothing says Valentine’s Day like a tragic love story with an unexpected yet satisfying ending!
