To re-cap what we’ve done in the living/family room so far, we have:
1. busted through and opened up two walls
2. pulled out carpeting
3. laid new wood flooring
4. sanded down existing wood flooring and stained the old & new to match
5. painted
6. added a new heating system

Everything is coming together well. I like the painting with the rug!
oh you are so so talented Sarah! This is looking beautiful already, so inspiring.
it’s beautiful!!! I love the cozy feel and the flamingo print is just a surprise pop of fun! Of course it helps that I have the same buffet and coffee table in my house, yay!

The flamingo is perfect for Palm Springs! x
LOL…or LA. Sorry! I thought I was on a House in the Hills blog when I commented. She posted about decorating the house over the weekend and I thought it was a follow up. Plus you both have very similar styles! xo
Haha! Chelsie, No worries. We’ve actually been mistaken for each other in person before too! Same name and we look similar, who’s to blame?! 🙂
OMG it is looking amazing! And stop it right now that flamingo is perfection beyond belief. Ahhh!!!
GIRL. I am just amazed. You guys are KILLING IT. I think I let out a little gasp every time I see new photos of your beautiful new space! I can’t believe how quickly you guys are getting this work done. BRAVO!!!!!!

Thank you guys so much for all of the lovely comments and for being here. It is so nice to see one little corner done. Now if only you saw the disaster that is the rest of the house! One step at a time right?
It really is a perfect creation. And not boringly perfect, just amazing! Please tell me where the buffet is from. I am looking for something similar since ages.
Hi Birgit, thank you! The link to find the buffet is listed in the credits. (Aka console table)

Wow, this looks awesome. I love how you’ve styled everything — great juxtaposition of textures and colors. Beautiful!
I come back to this post time and again! The freshness and color is just great and so inspiring. I tend toward too much neutral, so reminding myself of how great color can bring a room to life is key!
Quick question for you! I’ve been looking to add some marble touches around the house but have had trouble finding small pieces to accent with, like what you have on your coffee table. Did it come with that piece? If not, would you be kind enough to share where that came from? Did you just have to get something cut down to size? The thought sounded pretty pricey, so I was curious!
Hi Katy,
Thank you! Yes, I bought that piece of marble on amazon! If you search “marble pastry board” different small sizes should pop up.
So helpful! Thanks Sarah!
Modern living rooms have made a transition from a sterile feel where cleanliness and white couches were the priority, to rooms full of expression and character, a comfortable base to relax and enjoy your time.
